Angry crowd burns alive six people accused of robbery
GUATEMALA CITY (AP) – Four people were killed as an angry crowd burned six people accused of forming a band of robbers in the remote settlement of Cruz Chich, about 200 kilometres (125 miles) northwest of Guatemala City, police reported yesterday.
A 14-year-old boy was among the four people killed in the Friday vigilante attack, while two severely burned survivors were transported to a hospital in the Guatemalan capital for treatment, said Faustino Sanchez, an officer at the federal police base in Santa Cruz del Quiche.
Police from the base navigated narrow, muddy roads in response to reports of a lynching only to find they were blocked by an angry crowd armed with sticks and machetes from entering the Cruz Chich, on the outskirts of Joyabaj.
