Summer Perfect Ham
There was lots to sample at the recently concluded Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards, and already we can share with our readers a new food item for next year’s New Products Gallery.
So let’s start immediately with Caribbean Passion Smoked Chub Ham. “We perfected it just in time for the awards,” shares Roger Thompson, group marketing manager Caribbean Broilers Group. We must ‘fess up immediately that it was difficult on the night to resist both the taste and aroma of the rotisserie pork (theirs is the only source in Jamaica with three different flavours, namely jerked, calypso and garlic with Rosemary), and so we revisited the 400 and 500gms a week later and are pleased to report that the size is summer-perfect.
Thompson explains further.”Ham has long been a veritable Christmas tradition and responding to this market, Caribbean Passion launched the first boneless leg ham in 1998.” It seems, however, that we are no longer content to gather with the family once a year, and there seems to be a need for additional and affordable boneless leg ham throughout the year. “And so,” continues Thompson, buoyed by the overwhelming response to Caribbean Passion Smoked Chub Ham, “we have a product made from pork legs that have been de-boned, cured and fully cooked to satisfy even the most discerning palate.” He continues, “Caribbean Passion Smoked Chub Ham is the first of its kind in Jamaica, weighing between 400gms and 500gms.” What consumers will also love is the convenience, the great sandwiches that can be had any time of day as well as the low waste factor. Pack a picnic basket and spend the day enjoying the sights and sounds of nature.
Come dinner-time, thickly sliced as a ham steak, Caribbean Passion Chub Ham’s high protein content makes it an ideal dinner solution for families on the go. How about enjoying this with pasta, rice, sweet potatoes, asparagus spears or an excellent risotto?
