Post-mortem fails to establish why Mexican tourist died
NEGRIL, Westmoreland – The results of the post-mortem performed on a Mexican tourist, found dead inside a Negril hotel room last Tuesday, has failed to conclusively establish the cause of death.
The post-mortem was performed on Saturday afternoon in the presence of the deceased Gomez Landaverde’s brother, who flew in from Mexico. Dr MP Sarangi performed the examination at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay.
With the results inconclusive, samples have been sent to the government forensic laboratory in Kingston for further testing.
“The doctor is unable to determine the cause of death, so today (Monday) we sent off the different samples to the lab,” said Inspector Artel Colley, who spoke to the Observer obout the case.
He added that he expected the results within a month or so while noting that the police did not suspect foul play or suicide.
Landaverde’s body is to be cremated and the ashes given to his brother.
Gomez Landaverde, 34, a Mexican residing in Spain with his wife, came to the island on June 7 and should have left a week later. He was however found lying motionless in his bed inside his hotel room after 9:00 am. The maid who made the discovery alerted management and the police were called in to investigate.
