Men charged with death of businesswoman remanded
NEGRIL, Westmoreland – The two men charged with the murder of 52 year-old businesswoman Sandra McLeod were remanded in custody when they appeared in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
McLeod’s body was found earlier this month in a Negril hotel.
The men, Michael Grandison, operator of the Merrils hotel chain, and the resort’s property manager Peter Bandoo, both 41 years old, were booked to reappear in court on July 19.
Acting Senior Resident Magistrate Lyle Armstrong, in refusing bail, cited both men as flight risks.
At the time of her death, police believed that McLeod, who lived in Spring Gardens, an affluent neighbourhood in Montego Bay, might have been strangled.
McLeod, owner of the property where the Merril’s Beach resort is located in Negril, had allegedly gone to the property on Sunday, June 5, for a meeting. The hotel is operated under lease by Grandison.
McLeod was discovered at 5:30pm in the computer room, lying on her back, with an electrical cord tied around her neck.
Attorneys Ernie Smith, Courtney Gazambe, and Ravel Golding represented the accused men.
