Not all diamonds are forever
BUFF BAY, Portland – One of the diamonds – specially made groins – along the Buff Bay River was destroyed during hurricanes Emily and Dennis. Now the homes in the Olivier housing scheme that were protected by the barrier are in danger.
Mayor of Port Antonio Rupert Kelly said that the matter has been reported to the National Works Agency, but so far no action has resulted.
The river bed has a large build-up of silt and residents of the scheme have appealed for it to be cleared, fearing that the bridge may be carried away by erosion, as happened with the Rio Grande Bridge during Hurricane Dennis.
The diamond is cracked and separated at the top about three metres and the base is also separated.
