Regional chambers meet in Kingston today
LEADERS of Jamaican and other Caribbean chambers of commerce will gather in Kingston today and tomorrow for their second regional assembly.
The assembly, jointly hosted by the Caribbean Association of Industry & Commerce (CAIC) and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC), will feature presentations and discussions on a range of topics including the Caribbean Single Market & Economy (CSME), the Caribbean Court of Justice, HIV-AIDS in the workplace, Arbitration, Petro Caribe and Cricket World Cup. The Chambers will also explore means of enhancing cooperation between their associations.
“One key presentation will comprise a diagnosis of the institutional and other characteristics of Caribbean private sector bodies. The diagnosis will be informed by a region-wide survey sponsored by the Inter American Development Bank (IADB) executed earlier in the year,” the JCC said in a statement yesterday.
Chamber of commerce representatives are scheduled to arrive from Guyana, Antigua, Grenada, Dominica, St Maarten, St Vincent & the Grenadines, the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands.
The executive of the JCC and executive members of parish chambers of commerce representing businesses in Clarendon, Portland, Portmore, St Catherine, Negril and Montego Bay will join them in the meetings.
The CAIC is headed by Grace Kennedy & Company Executive James Moss-Solomon, while the JCC on Tuesday re-elected Noel daCosta to the presidency of that association.
