Wednesday
The JTA will, on Wednesday, begin hosting the first in a series of islandwide seminars for new teachers. The seminars are designed to inform the new recruits about their rights and responsibilities.
The sensitisation seminar will kick off in three parishes – Portland, St James and Clarendon. Seminars will be held at the Church of Christ, East Palm Avenue, Port Antonio, Portland; the Burchell Baptist Church Hall, Market Street, Montego Bay, St James; and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormans ), 17 Sevens Road, May Pen, Clarendon.
Friday
The Jamaica Information Service (JIS) will stage a book fair at its Half-Way-Tree Road head office from October 7 to 8. The annual event, dubbed the ‘Kingston Book Fair,’ will allow patrons to purchase a range of publications on Jamaica’s heritage and culture.
There will also be a wide selection of booklets, pamphlets, posters, photographs, audiocassettes, videocassettes and CDs on sale. Desk souvenirs and large Jamaican flags will also be on sale.
The gates will be open between the hours of 9:00 am and 6:00 pm on both days.
The Jamaica Information Service (JIS) will also host its ‘Regional Book Sales’ at its Montego Bay, Port Antonio and Ocho Rios offices on Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
