Mafia boss arrested
ROME, Italy (AFP) – A Mafia boss who ran extortion rackets and was considered one of the 30 most dangerous men in Italy was arrested Sunday at one of his hideouts in Sicily, authorities announced.
Umberto Di Fazio, 42, had been on the run since he was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment for murder five years ago.
Officers of the Carabinieri or paramilitary police tracked down Di Fazio in one of various hideouts he has been using, an official statement said.
Di Fazio is head of the Santapaola Mafia family based near Catania in the east of Sicily.
