JPS warns of possible power cuts
THE Jamaica Public Service (JPS) yesterday warned of possible load shedding between today and tomorrow because of a reduction in its reserve margin due to the shutting down of its B6 Unit at Hunts Bay in Kingston for “critical maintenance”.
The B6 Unit, that was taken off-line Tuesday night, provides approximately 68 megawatts of electricity. The unit is expected to be back on line by tomorrow.
“With the reduction in generation reserve margin, JPS is faced with the possibility of load shedding should any other large unit experience a forced outage,” the light and power company said in a statement last night.
According to the JPS, one such incident occurred yesterday morning when its Old Harbour Number 4 unit “tripped off line” and triggered temporary load shedding.
The unit, the company said, was eventually returned to the system later in the day.
