‘There is no split’
DR Omar Davies last night denied rumours of a split in his campaign, saying there was absolutely no truth to reports that DK Duncan and Beverly Anderson-Manley had resigned from his Campaign for Prosperity. “It’s not true,” said Davies last night, speaking he said, from Ocho Rios, St Ann.
Davies, one of four presidential hopefuls looking to replace Prime Minister PJ Patterson when he demits office, said he too had heard the reports and had consulted with Anderson-Manley and Duncan, both of whom assured him that they had no intention of leaving his team.
Later, Anderson-Manley also told the Sunday Observer that she was very much with the Campaign for Propserity, but like Davies, refused to speculate on who might have started the rumours about the split and their reasons.
“It must be the silly season,” said Anderson-Manley, who was once married to late prime minister Michael Manley. She said the rumour was equally untrue of Duncan, asserting that he too remains on Davies team.
Both her’s and Duncan’s name carry weight in the People’s National Party, and their support of Davies, the third favourite candidate, has given fillip to his campaign.
Anderson-Manley has no official title on the Campaign for Prosperity. Her role, she said, is “spokesperson … carrying the message.”
Duncan who is national field director for the campaign, did not return calls for comment, but Imani Duncan, his daughter and campaign deputy manager/manager of the candidate, said they had solid leads to the source.
