NEWS BRIEF
Cop caught!
A police corporal said to be assigned to the Half-Way-Tree Police Station was yesterday arrested during a sting operation by cops from the Professional Standards Branch.
The corporal was allegedly caught accepting a bribe from a taxi operator near Gore Terrace on Constant Spring Road in Kingston.
According to an eyewitness, at approximately 6:00 pm the corporal was accepting money from the taxi operator when several officers swooped down on him. The corporal was then restrained by having his motorbike placed on top of him, until an unmarked police car came and took him away.
The eyewitness said onlookers jeered the embarrassed policeman, at one point even causing a traffic build-up along the busy road.
Another student stabbed
A grade 9 male student of the St Catherine High School was stabbed and injured, allegedly by a classmate, yesterday.
The police said the student who is alleged to have committed the act had complained that the other student has been provoking him for some time.
Police said the two had an argument yesterday, when a tussle ensued in the classroom.
The class teacher reportedly left the classroom to seek assistance, but upon returning one of the student was found on the floor suffering from stab wounds. He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.
The incident comes on the heal of the stabbing of a student at the Cedric Titus High School on Monday this week.
