SRC partners with HomeworkJamaica.com
A NEW partnership between the Scientific Research Council (SRC) and HomeworkJamaica.com (HWJ) will give members of the group access to a list of resources offered by the SRC documentation centre as well as information on science and technology through a hyperlink that connects the websites of both entities.
The link will allow users to access information featured on a special page of the SRC website, ‘Science for Young Minds’. The SRC has also agreed to allow use of its human and other resources available to assist students in addressing difficult topics, answering homework questions as well as provide an updated list of reference sources resident in its documentation centre.
“As we grow to understand the intrinsic value of science and technology to developing countries, we find the alliance with the SRC timely and profound,” said Ingrid Loiten, managing director of HomeworkJamaica.com.
She said the organisation was constantly seeking new ways to diversify its offering and boost students’ academic performances.
In expressing the SRC’s delight with the partnership, Andrea Heavens, team leader – Popularisation for the SRC, said the alliance represented “an ideal harmony of entities with a similar vision”.
“[It’s] a vision that has as its linchpin students’ educational development and boosting the intellectual capital of Jamaica’s young minds,” Heavens said. “By providing a hyperlink from the HomeworkJamaica.com website we are able to effectively reach a substantial number of students and offer them a wealth of information and resources about science and technology.”
The Scientific Research Council (SRC), Jamaica’s principal public sector agency, is responsible for the fostering and coordination of scientific research.
Since its inception in October 2003, HomeworkJamaica.com has been providing daily updates on homework assignments, Parent-Teachers’ Association (PTA) meeting reminders, and homework assistance information on its website and via text messaging.
The technology-driven homework management model involves alerting parents of the homework assignments given to their children from schools on a daily basis. Through the website, students, parents and teachers are offered support relevant to primary and secondary school curricula.
