Ground broken for cement company’s expansion
GROUND was broken Thursday for the Caribbean Cement Company Limited’s Kiln 5 expansion project at the company’s Rockfort plant.
Kiln 5, the centre of the cement company’s multi-million-dollar expansion and modernisation programme, will increase the plant’s capacity to 1.3 million metric tonnes of clinker and two million metric tonnes of cement per year by 2008.
At the same time, more than 1,000 jobs are expected to be created over the next three years following the expansion.
The cement company said it has conducted training programmes for residents in the adjoining communities to provide a pool of trained persons to fill the posts.
