Eight murders reported Friday

The police yesterday reported eight murders across the island in separate incidents Friday. According to the police, 33-year-old sound system operator Stephen McBean of Deeside was fatally stabbed during an altercation with another man at a wake in Wakefield district, Trelawny.

The incident occurred at about 1:45 am when McBean turned off a sound system he was operating at the wake. A man attending the wake accused McBean of disrespecting him and an argument ensued.

The man used a knife to stab McBean. He was taken to the Falmouth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Yesterday, the Wakefield police said they wanted to get in touch with a 23-year-old man from Wakefield district whom they believe can assist in their investigation.

Nearly two hours later, 29-year-old Denise Wright, a hairdresser of 2nd Avenue, Gregory Park, St Catherine was shot dead by gunmen at her home.

The police reported that at about 3:30 am two gunmen approached Wright and inquired about another woman. Following a brief conversation the armed hoodlums opened fire hitting her. She died on the spot.

Also in that same parish, the body of 35-year-old Ryan Tomlinson, otherwise called ‘Reds’, of Sombrero Drive, Lauriston was found with gunshot wounds on the Spanish Town bypass.

The police said that at about 6:00 am, a passerby found Tomlinson’s body with a gunshot wound.

Investigators from the St Catherine North Homicide Unit said he was last seen alive about 5:30 pm on Thursday.

The fourth victim, an unidentified man, was found at 6:30 am by a passerby in Barrett Hall district, Lilliput, St James.

He was clad in white shorts and is believed to be in his mid-30s, of dark complexion, medium built, about 175.26 centimetres tall and has a tattoo on the left arm.

Investigators who went to the scene inspected the body and found a number of chop and stab wounds.

Meanwhile, in Kingston, Isaiah McLeod, 50, otherwise called ‘Trevor’ of Waltham Park Road, Kingston 13 was stabbed to death by robbers.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that about 11:00 am Friday, McLeod alighted from a passenger bus at the intersection of Spanish Town Road and West Street. While at that location he was approached by a group of men who robbed him of jewellery and an undetermined sum of money. He was then stabbed several times by his attackers who placed him on a hand cart which they left at Rose Lane.

Meantime, 34-year-old Patrick Fletcher of Glenmeade Road, Marverly, Kingston 20 was shot dead by unknown assailants at West Main Drive, Kingston 20.

The CCN reported that about 8:10 pm, Fletcher was on West Main Drive when a motor car drove up. The occupants in the vehicle pulled guns and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital.

Thirty-five minutes later, a cook shop operator was gunned down by a man at Seaton Crescent, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

Police say Roy Beckford, 33, of Seaton Crescent, was outside his cook shop at about 8:45 pm when he was approached by a man armed with a gun who shot him several times. He died on the spot.

The eighth murder victim on Friday was racehorse groom, 34-year-old Junior Little otherwise called ‘Stitchie’ of First Avenue, Gregory Park. He was shot dead at Queens Avenue, Gregory Park in St Catherine.

According to a report received by the CCN at about 11:15 pm, residents heard explosions and called the police. On their arrival, investigators found Little’s body with gunshot wounds.
