Two in custody following Cornwall shooting
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth – Two men were last night in police custody in relation to the shooting death of 48 year-old farmer Kevin Watson and the injuring of two others at Cornwall District in the Lacovia area of St Elizabeth in the early morning of Sunday, April 23.
Their names are being withheld pending formal charges.
Police say Watson and several others were at a bar and grocery shop in Cornwall District at about 2:10 am on April 23, when two masked men – one armed with a gun and the other with a knife – entered. The armed men robbed the patrons of cash and cell phones. On leaving, the gunman opened fire on the robbery victims.
Watson and two others – whom the police declined to name yesterday – were rushed to hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. Watson succumbed to his injuries several hours later, while the other two were admitted.
Police say the men in custody are “from the same general area” as the victims. Police investigators believe robbery was the motive.
