Man confesses to rape, murder of boy, 4
NEVERS, France (AFP) – The main suspect in the rape and murder of a four-year-old boy in a village in central France a week ago “has confessed”, the prosecutor in Nevers said yesterday.
The suspect, in his fifties, along with his ex-partner, are in custody and were expected to appear before the investigating magistrate later Saturday.
He was brought in for questioning by police on Friday morning. He lives in an apartment in the heart of the village of Moulins-Engilbert, where the little boy Mathias was found dead.
The boy’s naked and lifeless body was found last Sunday. An autopsy determined he had been raped and probably drowned in a nearby river.
More than 700 people in the village turned out Friday for his funeral. He was buried in the village cemetery.
