Lukewarm support in Westmoreland
SUPPORT for Labour Day activities in Westmoreland was lukewarm, with most attention being paid to the parish’s main project – the beautification of St Georges Street, Norman Square, Guy Ottey Park and Independence Park in Savanna-la-Mar by undertaken by businesses and service clubs.
Work at Independence Park, located at Hendon Square, included the planting of trees around the perimeter fencing, the installation of three concrete park benches and painting of the perimeter fencing, was co-ordinated by CEO of the Cabletron Network Systems, Mrs Delford Morgan.
Morgan, a member of the parish’s Labour Day Planning Committee, said 26 of her staff and 12 staff members from RBTT Bank undertook work at the park from as early as 9:00 am. She told the Observer that the committee bought some 180 trees, which had been planted along St. Georges Street.
“Work here went well today, although a lot of the beatification work had started before, especially the planting of trees along Great Georges Street.”
RBTT staff also undertook repainting and bushing of the Savanna-la-Mar Health Clinic while the staff of Sandals Negril undertook a complete refurbishment of the Children’s Ward at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital.
General Manager Scott Robins said the work Tuesday was part of the hotel’s adoption of the children’s ward. “We are putting in new screens for the windows, new doors, repainting and extending the neonatal section,” he said.
