Jamaican teacher gets Thurgood Marshall award
Jamaican teacher Shirley Wynter-Smith shows off the Thurgood Marshall African American Educators Award presented to her by the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People and the National Council for Negro Women in the North Bronx, USA on May 13.
Wynter-Smith, who teaches at the Philip Sheridan School (PS 21) in Bronx, was recognised for outstanding contribution to student development.
She left Jamaica on the International Teacher Programme in 2001 and is now pursuing a Master’s degree in Education, which she intends to complete in December.
