Central St Mary gets their Guy
Incumbent PNP MP for Central St Mary Dr Morais Guy was on Sunday selected to be the party’s candidate in the next general election, due next year.
At a selection meeting held at St Mary High School in Highgate, Guy received 343 votes to easily beat Senator Floyd Morris, who got 179 votes. The other candidate, Hurley Taylor, received eight votes.
Jubilant supporters of Dr Guy hoisted him into the air after the results were announced. Dr Guy has been the MP since 2002, and it was expected that the contest would have been a close one between himself and Morris.
Meanwhile, Eyon Palmer was confirmed as the PNP candidate for the Islington Division for the local government election. Of the 53 ballots cast, 46 voted yes, three voted no and four were rejected. Palmer was the only person on the ballot.
For the Highgate Division, Paul Fyfe earned the right to represent the PNP in the next local government election by polling 71 votes to defeat Garrick Shaw, who got 52.
