Cops kill teenager alleged to be goat thief
DUANVALE, Trelawny – A teenager accused of stealing goats was Friday shot and killed in what police claimed was a shoot-out at Martha Brae in the parish.
The teen has been identified as Andy Moncrieffe, otherwise called “Reagon”, 16, of Dromilly in Trelawny.
Police spokesman Corporal Andrea Brown said at about 1:30 Friday afternoon they received information regarding the theft of goats in the Duanvale area. Police from the Falmouth station, he said, responded to the call and were patrolling the area when on reaching Martha Brae they saw three men travelling in a white Toyota Corolla motor car.
Brown said the police ordered the men to stop and they disobeyed and opened fire at the officers after which they crashed the car into a utility pole. The men reportedly ran from the vehicle and engaged the police in a shoot-out. The police, he said, returned the fire and Moncrieffe was found afterwards clutching a 9mm firearm. He was pronounced dead at hospital.
