Three injured in Long Lane crash
THREE people were seriously injured yesterday in an accident involving a Jamaica Pre-Mix cement truck and an Isuzu trucked along Long Lane in Stony Hill, St Andrew, yesterday.
Two of the injured were identified as Rohan Reid, driver of the Pre-Mix truck, and Clive Brown.
The thick chunks of twisted metal and shattered glass that littered the roadway caused traffic on the busy thoroughfare to come to a standstill for more than an hour.
Residents of Long Lane, who claimed that they witnessed the accident, said the Pre-Mix truck slammed into a wall and the mixer overturned on the Isuzu truck that was travelling in the opposite direction.
“I was just coming off from the bus down at the bottom when I heard this loud explosion,” said a resident who identified herself only as Agatha.
“We have had accidents like this before but it is not common,” said Frank Ricketts, production manager at Jamaica Pre-Mix.
Meanwhile, Constable Paul Williams said such accidents on the Long Lane road are common. “It’s the angle of the road, the road is also very slippery when wet,” he said. “In this case, it is either speed, or it could have been the lack of brakes,” said the officer.
He said, however, that further investigations would be carried out by the police to determine the cause of the accident.
