Father grieves as man accused of killing three kids appears in court
THE father of the three children whose throats were slashed in Kilancholly, St Mary, last year could not fight back his anger and tears when he faced the accused in court Monday.
But the accused, Jeffery Perry, the children’s cousin, showed no emotion and was ordered to undergo further psychiatric assessment before returning to court on Monday, September 25, when a trial date is expected to be set.
Michael Williams had to be asked by an officer in court to control himself as he attempted to vent in anger over the killing of his daughter Shadice Williams, 4, and stepchildren Dwayne Davidson, 15 and Suann Gordon 13, and his dissatisfaction with the “slow” justice process.
“Every day him come eat and drink wid mi pickney dem and then come cut dem throat,” a grief-stricken Williams told the Observer outside the Supreme Court.
“A dis last one, a him alone leave in di house,” Williams said, clutching his three-year-old son – the only one spared in the killings on January 28 last year.
He added: “A God alone why mi no mad already and eat out of garbage pan.” The killings, he said, has also put strain on his marriage as the accused is his wife’s cousin.
The presiding judge, however, had words of comfort for the family. “I know it must be distressing for you. but the doctor needs to see [Perry] some more,” Justice Kay Beckford told the family and witnesses.
