Girl, 16, on murder rap
A 16 year-old girl of Norwood, St James is facing the capital charge following Sunday’s fatal stabbing of Leleith James, 38, at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that about 6:00 pm James and the teenager were involved in an argument, when the young girl allegedly used a knife to stab James. The injured woman was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.
Following investigations by the Montego Bay police, the teenage girl was taken into custody.
Ganja seized during spot check; cop arrested
A police constable assigned to the Lionel Town Police Station in Clarendon was Sunday arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act following the seizure of over 20 kilograms of ganja during a routine traffic stop on Spanish Town Road, Kingston.
Charged with possession of, dealing in and trafficking ganja is Phillip Boothe, 29, of Porus Manchester.
The CCN’s metro officer reported that about 9:30 Sunday night, the policeman, who was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car, was stopped by members of a police party on Spanish Town Road. He complied and the vehicle was searched and three plastic bags containing ganja weighing approximately 29.5 kilograms were allegedly found. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
The Denham Town Police are investigating.
Trelawny Infirmary damaged by fire
FIRE believed to be caused by an electrical short circuit during a power outage yesterday damaged a section of the laundry room at the Trelawny Infirmary on Rodney Street in Falmouth. No one was injured.
The CCN’s liaison officer for Trelawny reported that at about 3:00 am, fire was seen coming from a section of the laundry room of the infirmary. The fire brigade was summoned and one unit from the Falmouth Fire Department put out the blaze.
Loss was estimated at $2.5 million.
