Clarendon businessman gets 20 years for manslaughter
A former Clarendon businessman was yesterday sentenced to 20 years in prison for the October 2005 shooting death of his children’s mother in Glenmuir Meadows, May Pen.
Derrick McIntosh, 40, was originally indicted on a charge of murder but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter.
The Crown charged that McIntosh, who was “abusive towards” Nicola Wright, 24, shot her once in the head and in the hand after an altercation at her home.
On October 22, McIntosh visited Wright, who is the mother of his two children – four and six years old – and dragged her toward the gate during an argument. Her brother intervened, and McIntosh pulled a gun on him.
Wright then ran back into the house, McIntosh followed, shots were heard and she was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and left hand. She died two days later at the hospital.
