7 Hondurans, 3 Jamaicans on ganja rap
SEVEN Hondurans and three Jamaicans were Thursday arrested by the police, following the seizure of a fishing boat that was allegedly carrying ganja off the coast of Black River in St Elizabeth.
The police did not release the names of the suspects, nor say how many kilogrammes of the illegal drug were aboard the vessel.
Steve Brown, spokesman for the anti-narcotics task force, Operation Kingfish, said that the men were being questioned by narcotics agents and immigration officers.
According to the police, shortly after 12:00 Thursday morning, the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard, acting on information from Kingfish, intercepted a Honduran fishing vessel off the Black River coast.
“On approach of the Coast Guard, the occupants of the boat threw several objects overboard and a search of the area resulted in the retrieval of nine bales of ganja,” said a report from Operation Kingfish.
The 10 men were then taken into custody.
