IGL Curry Goat Cricket Series plays on in St Elizabeth
St Elizabeth, Jamaica – Not even the threat of Hurricane Ernesto could stop the IGL Curry Goat Cricket Series from playing its scheduled match.
Last Saturday the St Elizabeth Invitational team took on the IGL Blue Flames team in a 20/20 match at the Appleton Estate.
The St Elizabeth team won the toss and elected to bat first. Midway the second over of the day, there was a heavy downpour of rain for about 15 minutes, which caused a two-hour play interruption. The organisers and ground staff worked feverishly, in preparing the wicket after the rain to facilitate play. The pitch was gassed and lit several times to ensure a match ready pitch.
Due to the time lost, the game was reduced to 20 overs per side. The exciting 20/20 version of the game proved to be quite an affair for the hundreds of patrons who came out to support their favourite team, enjoy the games and entertainment, and also, the curry goat.
When the game restarted at 2:00 pm, the St Elizabeth Invitational found the going rough, as they were unable to cope with the bowling of the IGL Blue Flames and lost wickets at regular intervals. They eventually reached 94-6 off their allotted 20 overs.
With the threat of rain, The IGL Blue Flames team came out in an attacking mood, dispatching the ball to the boundary on a regular basis. They too paid the price of their attacking play, as they also lost wickets at regular intervals. But inspite of this, the St Elizabeth Invitational’s score was whittled away under the pressure, as the IGL Blue Flames romped to victory with 6.3 overs to spare. Scores in the match: St Elizabeth Invitational 94-6, IGL Blue Flames 95-7.
