Comedy Buss team… unearthing new talent
SI WI YAH Entertainment, the brain child of actor/comedian Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley and attorney Coleen Lewis, is committed to unearthing, exposing and celebrating the rich talent that Jamaicans possess.
The Cash Pot Comedy Buss in association with MiPhone is one means by which they are currently achieving this objective. Since June, the Knutsford Express Comedy Buss has been travelling the length and breadth of Jamaica holding auditions for prospective finalists in what is Jamaica’s first Stand Up Comedy Reality TV Show.
The preliminary rounds, which are currently being aired on CVM TV at 9 pm on Tuesdays are giving the public a taste of what is to come when the ‘Buss’ parks itself at the Jonkanno Lounge at the Hilton Hotel in October.
With Digicel’s Rising Star competition in its third season, MiPhone Dancing Dynamites just concluded and the BMobile Caribbean Model Search in full gear, reality TV is fast becoming a staple for the Jamaican audience. The bench mark for entertainment of this nature is therefore quite high. SI WI YAH ENTERTAINMENT is confident that the Comedy Buss more than meets this mark.
“The Business and art of stand up comedy is a special one” says Daley. “It is very demanding and for some people an impossibility because success is based on many factors and not just the ability to tell a joke. Your material needs to be fresh, your timing and delivery spot on and you must connect with your audience and there is no audience tougher than one that is daring you to make them laugh.”
Though an attorney by profession, Coleen Lewis is also a performer in her own right, having done plays such as Oliver Mair’s Dis Ting, JamBiz’s Children Children and Trevor Rhone’s Old Story Time. She notes that the partnership that SI WI YAH Entertainment has forged with their sponsors through the development of The Comedy Buss TV show offers all parties a unique opportunity for business and entertainment.
The Comedy Buss is designed for unearthing and highlighting talent at a community level. Through the competition process, this talent will be honed and enhanced through workshops with professionals and then highlighted on television to the Jamaican public who will then decide through voting on a winner.
