Cop dies in hospital one week after car smash
Superintendent of Police Cornelius Walker, 53, died in hospital yesterday from injuries he received last Saturday in a motor vehicle accident along Pechon Street, downtown Kingston.
The police say the Honda CRV motor vehicle, in which Walker was a passenger, collided with a Toyota Corolla motor car at the intersection of Pechon and Port Royal Street.
Walker, who is attached to the Area 4 headquarters in downtown Kingston, sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) where was admitted. The driver and two other passengers in the Honda CRV escaped serious injuries while the driver of the Toyota motor car, like Walker, was also admitted to hospital.
At approximately 2:00 am yesterday Walker succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations in the accident are currently under way, the police say.
Yesterday, Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas expressed condolences to the members of Walker’s family, friends and colleagues.
A statement issued by the Constabulary Communication
