Henry-Wilson says textbooks will be delivered shortly
ALL schools awaiting the delivery of textbooks – which are a week late – should receive their supplies shortly as the books are now on the wharf and will be cleared and delivered, according to Education Minister Maxine Henry-Wilson.
In the meantime, however, Henry-Wilson apologising in a statement issued to the media over the weekend, said the hold-up would “not affect the student’s learning as the primary schools would have had some texts that were delivered late last year and placed in storage for this year”.
“The secondary schools would have had books from the previous years. What we deliver now will merely be replenishing their stock,” the minister said.
According to Henry-Wilson, all efforts have been made to ensure that schools have their quota of textbooks, with just under $900m being spent on primary and secondary schools textbooks this year.
On the matter of human resources, the minister said an “extraordinary effort” was made this year “to ensure the appointment of nearly the full complement of principals”.
