JAS welcomes Levy’s appointment as SCJ chairman
THE Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) says it will be cooperating fully with the new chairman of the Sugar Company of Jamaica (SCJ), Robert Levy, in the redevelopment of the sugar cane industry.
“The JAS pledges its full cooperation with the new board of management, the All-Island Jamaica Cane Farmers Association (AIJCFA), the sugar cane industry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, to work relentlessly as partners and stakeholders in an effort to advance a better quality of life for the cane farmers,” JAS president Senator Norman Grant, said in a release issued Wednesday.
He said urgent steps must to taken to expedite the process of transformation of the sugar industry, “as it is fundamental to the well-being of the cane farmers and, by extension, rural life”.
“To this extent, the JAS will now seek to be a more active stakeholder in helping to create a brighter future for our cane farmers,” Grant said.
