Golding confirms MacMillan’s appointment to Senate
OPPOSITION Leader Bruce Golding yesterday advised the governor-general to appoint former police commissioner Colonel Trevor MacMillan as a member of the Senate, confirming reports already carried by the media.
The appointment of MacMillan, a management consultant, to the Senate will bring the Opposition membership of the Senate to its full complement of eight members.
The vacancy was created following the recent resignation of Norman Horne, who had left the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party, but remained an independent member of the Senate. However, Horne gave up the Senate seat after rejoining the governing People’s National Party.
Yesterday, Golding noted Colonel MacMillan’s outstanding record of public service and the wealth of his experience in critical areas of national life and expressed confidence that he would make a significant contribution to the deliberations of the Senate.
