PM leaves today for Non-Aligned Summit
PRIME Minister Portia Simpson Miller is scheduled to leave the island today for the 14th Summit of the Non- Aligned Movement, being held in Havana, Cuba.
Members of the prime minister’s delegation are Foreign Minister Senator Anthony Hylton; Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Patricia Sinclair McCalla; Ambassador to Cuba Elinor Sherlock; and Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations, Ambassador Raymond Wolfe.
On Friday, Prime Minister Simpson Miller will address the plenary session of the heads of government and state, and will also engage in bilateral discussions with Colombia, Namibia, South Africa, and Thailand, as well as meet with Jamaican students studying in Cuba.
The Non-Aligned Movement will officially welcome Haiti and St Kitts and Nevis as its newest members, thereby making all 14 independent Caribbean Community (Caricom) states official members. Jamaica formally became a member of the movement in 1970.
