PJ joins PNP campaign
Former prime Minister P J Patterson, who was yesterday accepted as a life member of the ruling People’s National Party (PNP), is to join the party’s road campaign which will begin immediately after the 68th annual conference ends today.
Patterson, the most successful politician in Jamaica’s electoral history, has won three consecutive electoral victories to push the party to a historic four consecutive five-year terms.
Campaign director Dr Paul Robertson said Patterson was closely associated with the campaign and the PNP was generating a psychology.
“We are leaving the arena tomorrow as a unified party going out to win the next elections,” said Robertson. “But we have to redouble our efforts, because polls are no use without work in the constituencies.”
According to Robertson, the party will hit the road after conference, as it was “our duty to ensure that the team is properly received and is allowed to make contact with as many people as [the party] may be able to influence”.
“It is only the PNP that can lose the election. The JLP cannot beat a unified PNP. There is no power on earth that can defeat the PNP but ourselves. Let us go forward and win the next elections for the next generation,” he told the conference.
