Cops kill Fullersfield man they say was wanted
The dead man has been identified as 46 year-old farmer Hubert Brown, also known as ‘Mega’ and ‘Big Man’ of a Fullersfield address in the parish.
The police reported that about 4:40 am they went in search of Brown. They first went to his house in Fullersfield and when he was not found, the police party, acting on further information, went to a nearby house belonging to Lloyd Forrest, a 51-year-old businessman.
According to investigators, when the police arrived at the house, Brown, who was seen hiding in a bathroom, pointed a gun in the direction of the police party. He was subsequently shot and taken to the Savanna-la-Mar General Hospital were he was pronounced dead.
The police said a Para 9mm pistol with serial # 00623 and loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition and a plastic bag with cartridges were taken from him.
During a further search of the premises, the police said a Beretta 9mm piston with 14 rounds of ammunition was found in a room occupied by Forrest.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
According to acting crime officer for Westmoreland, Detective Inspector Louis Brown, the deceased man was wanted for questioning for murder and arson in connection with the death of 72 year-old Beatrice Bennett, who was shot and burnt to death in Fullersfield last Tuesday, after her house was set ablaze.
“He was also wanted for questioning in connection with the attempted murder of Wesley Kerr, who is the common- law husband of Bennett,” added the detective inspector, who said that the slain man was also wanted for three counts of wounding with intent.
