Attorney Berthan MaCaulay is dead
WELL-respected attorney-at-law Berthan MaCaulay QC, died yesterday. He was 76 years old.
According to MaCaulay’s wife, Margarette, he sustained a fall on Tuesday and hit his side, damaging his spleen, and causing internal bleeding. Despite undergoing surgery he later succumbed to the injury.
MaCaulay, after serving as the first attorney-general in Sierra Leone between 1963 and 1968, came to Jamaica in the early 1970s where he specialised in matters concerning constitutional law. MaCaulay was also the first and only Sierra Leonian attorney to attain the position of Queen’s Counsel. MaCaulay leaves behind his wife, six children and six grandchildren.
