Hannah Town residents protest for ‘Dasheen’
Residents of Hannah Town in Kingston yesterday set up burning roadblocks as they protested against Sunday’s killing by the police of Conroy Slater, a 24-year-old resident of the community who is also known by the alias “Dasheen”.
However, the police maintained yesterday that Slater, who resided at Upper Oxford Street in the tough Hannah Town community, was wanted by cops for murder, and was shot after he engaged cops in a gunfight.
Slater, the police said yesterday, was being sought in connection with last week’s brazen daylight murder of the Chetolah Park security guard/assistant football coach, Derrick Lewis, at a football field in Greenwich Town. Lewis was slaughtered while his son and more than 50 other children watched during a primary school football match.
Morning traffic had to be diverted due to the roadblock.
