Traffic changes in Port Maria
THE National Works Agency (NWA) yesterday closed the Otrium Bridge in Port Maria, St Mary, and at the same time implemented changes to the traffic flow in the town.
THe NWA’s manager of communication and customer services Stephen Shaw said the old Otrium Bridge, which is located near to the Shell Gas Station would be demolished.
A new bridge, he said, would be constructed in the same location and that which would form part of a one-way rotary system that the agency planned to implement in the town of Port Maria.
“The system will be introduced upon completion of major rehabilitation work currently being done as part of Segment Three of the North Coast Highway Improvement Project,” Shaw said.
Shaw said that as a result of the closure of the Otrium Bridge traffic will be diverted onto the recently constructed bridge which is about 100 metres from the existing structure.
“The change will result in motorists travelling easterly from Oracabessa towards Annotto Bay being rerouted along Banana Street, then to Cox Street continuing over the new bridge and then onto Stennett Street. The reverse obtains from motorists travelling from the direction of Annotto Bay towards Oracabessa,” said Shaw.
The changes, he said, would be maintained for the next six months, when it is expected that the new bridge would be completed.
