Prison murder case rescheduled to next February
THE trial of the three men charged with the beating death of a fellow inmate at the Half-Way-Tree Police lock-up has been rescheduled for next year, following a postponement on Monday at the Home Circuit Court.
The murder case against Orville ‘Love Lane’ Cole, Oliver ‘Goofy’ Smith and Wayne ‘Peas Head’ Stewart had to be postponed until February 7, 2007, as the doctor who performed the post-mortem on victim George Edwards, otherwise called Steve Black, is off the island until that time.
Allegations are that on November 29, 2001, Edwards was resting on a bunk in his cell when the three entered, dragged him off the bunk and stomped him several times on the head.
They then allegedly took him to the bathroom at the back of the cell, where he was later discovered by the police and taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he died on December 5. The men were identified by an eyewitness, but denied the charges.
