Motorist shot dead, another injured in Mandeville
MANDEVILLE, Manchester – Police in Mandeville are investigating the shooting death of a 27-year-old woman and the injuring of her aunt as they drove home yesterday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Judith Spencer, a student nurse of the United States and Cedar Gardens in Mandeville, while her aunt, whose name was not ascertained at press time last night, was admitted to hospital in a “serious but stable” condition.
Police say the two were travelling home in their motor car during afternoon rain just before 4:00 pm when the car slowed on approaching a pool of water. At that point, police say, a man approached the car and greeted Spencer by name. Gunshots were then heard and it was realised that Spencer and her aunt had been shot.
They were taken to hospital where Spencer was pronounced dead and her aunt admitted.
Police confirmed last night that Spencer’s father was shot and injured at their Cedar Gardens home earlier this year.
Spencer’s death represents the 20th murder in Manchester this year, compared to 19 up to this point last year and 23 for all of last year.
