Island placed on flash flood watch
THE entire island was last night put under flash flood as more rains were expected from a frontal system that has been affecting the island since yesterday morning.
According to the National Meteorological Service, residents should take precautionary measures, keep informed and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
The Met Service said the system was expected to continue influencing weather conditions over the next two to three days, and that widespread moderate to heavy showers with scattered thunderstorms were expected throughout the period.
At the same time, the Met Service said temperatures were expected to fall to two and three degrees below normal, while wind speeds, especially over inshore and offshore areas of the north and west coasts were expected to increase significantly.
Fishermen and other marine interests were urged to exercise caution as gusty winds and choppy seas may be encountered in the vicinity of thunderstorms.
