Hotel worker hit by bus, dies
RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann – A worker contracted to the Bahia Principe Hotel here in Runaway Bay died after being hit by a motor vehicle at the entrance to the hotel on Monday.
The worker, 44-year-old mason Oneil Thomas, resided at Refuge in Trelawny.
Another worker, who was also involved in the accident, has been admitted to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital in serious condition.
The police reported that Thomas and two co-workers had finished working and were standing at the entrance of the hotel at around 6:20 pm awaiting transportation to go home.
While they were there, a white Toyota Townace, heading from Discovery Bay to Runaway Bay, in an attempt to avoid an accident, got out of control and hit Thomas and a female co-worker.
Thomas reportedly died on the spot while the woman was admitted to hospital.
The driver of the vehicle, whose name has been withheld by the police, fled the scene but turned himself in to the Runaway Bay police Tuesday morning.
