Woman mowed down by truck identified
THE St Ann police have identified the woman who died on Tuesday evening after she was hit by a truck along the Discovery Bay main road in St Ann. She has been identified as 75-year-old pensioner Jean Sullivan Brown of Content District Discovery Bay, St Ann.
CCN Liaison officer for St Ann, Corporal Stacy Hawkins, said Brown was walking along the Discovery Bay main road in an easterly direction, when she allegedly ran across the road into the path of a yellow 1997 Ford Sterling Motor Truck.
Brown was taken to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Discovery Bay Police are said to be investigating. A number of business persons in St. Ann are to appear in court to answer to charges of breaching the solid waste act.
They were served with summons during a sting operation in the major towns in the parish during the week in a crack down on the illegal dumping of commercial garbage.
Regional Operational Manager at the North Eastern Parks and markets (NEPM) Waste Management Limited Alvin Williams has described the operations as being successful.
Five tickets were served on business in Ocho Rios six in St Anns Bay and three in Browns Town.
Williams explains that business persons were also warned to clear garbage from their compound. Those who are to appear in court could pay a fine of up to one million dollars or five months in prison.
The regional operations manager say that some business persons are also making arrangements with the agency for the clearing of their garbage.
