Gun stolen from injured guard found
THE Mandeville police yesterday recovered a gun that was stolen from an injured security guard along the Greyground main road in Manchester six weeks ago.
Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) officer for Manchester, Sergeant Rovan Salmon, said the gun – Smith and Wesson .38 revolver with serial number C980098 – was found in an abandoned building in the Greyground community.
He said the police received a tip about the gun, which was stolen from a Marksman security guard who was involved in a traffic accident.
Salmon said the police subsequently carried out an operation, led by Detective Sergeant Heron Smith, that led to the recovery of the weapon.
No arrest has been made in connection to the find, the ninth gun find in the parish since the start of the year.
In an initial search for the gun about two months ago, the police had come under fire from residents of Greyground, who said they were not happy with the manner which the officers treated the suspects.
One person who was taken into custody from that operation has since been released.
