Bills postponing local gov’t elections tabled
TWO bills postponing local government elections by another six months were tabled in the House of Representatives yesterday by Minister of Local Government and Environment, Dean Peart.
The bills seek to amend the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) and the Parish Councils acts to delay the elections by a total of 12 months since they were due in June 2006.
Peart will make a statement to the House of Representatives, today, on the issue of the audit of the councils. However, the bills are not expected to be debated until next week Tuesday, when the House is scheduled to sit for the last time this year.
Peart reported to the Cabinet on Monday on the developments surrounding the audits done by his ministry’s internal auditors.
