Electricity returns to Cacoon
CACOON, Hanover – Electricity was Thursday returned to the Cacoon All-Age School in this small rural community, following the theft of electrical fixtures at the institution last weekend, leaving the school without power supply.
“.We replaced the panel box and the meter that were stolen, so we now have electricity,” said school principal Sylvia Davis.
On Tuesday, scores of parents accompanied by teachers at the Cacoon All-Age School protested in front of the institution against what they described as the “continued vandalism” of the facility.
According to the protesters, the institution has been vandalised at least four times since September last year.
“Over the years, computers, television sets and food items, as well as water, have also been stolen from the school,” one protester said.
People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker for Western Hanover Ian Hayles, who recently adopted the school, also condemned the act and appealed to residents to stop the vandalism.
Meanwhile, Davis told the Observer that with the return of the school’s electricity supply, the institution was able to start the end of Christmas term examinations, which were scheduled to begin last Monday.
