Body left unburied another day at Pye River cemetery
MONTEGO BAY, St James – The burial of 35-year-old Rohan Morris, whose decomposed body was left overnight at the Pye River Cemetery on Saturday, has been pushed back to today.
The burial, which should have been done yesterday, was pushed back because Maddens Funeral home refused to go ahead without the approval of the St James Parish Council.
Detective Corporal Hilton, who on Saturday blasted the government pathologist who had refused to wait on the body to conduct a post mortem Saturday evening, said the funeral home insisted on getting a letter from the council before they would touch the body.
“We get him to go there today,” Corporal Hilton said yesterday, in reference to the pathologist who was notified at 4:20 Saturday afternoon that the body was on its way to the cemetery but left before it arrived 20 minutes later. “But Maddens said they not touching the body until they get a letter form the council,” added the policeman.
The council is closed on weekends.
Up to 10:00 yesterday morning, workers, who had been at the cemetery located at Bogue since 5:00 am were not aware that a decomposed body was there awaiting burial. The metal box containing Morris’ remains was surrounded by flies and the workers subsequently had to chase away two dogs that had converged on the box, which was not properly secured.
Morris, who was said to be involved in a love triangle, was found dead in a gully at Mahogany in Mt Carey Saturday. The woman, with whom he allegedly had a visiting relationship with, notified police on Saturday after she smelt a foul odour in a gully near her house.
The woman, the police said, said she last saw Morris on Tuesday night when he kicked down the door to her home, where she was sleeping with her child and her child’s father. The two, she said, got into a fight and used knives to stab each other.
The Anchovy police said they were seeking the man for questioning in relation to Morris’ death.
Up to yesterday evening Morris’ family had also not been notified of his death.
