Ex-deacon’s trial stalled again
An incomplete prosecution file has again stalled a trial date in the sex case turned human trafficking matter against ex-deacon Donovan Jones and his three teenage co-accused in the Home Circuit Court.
When the four appeared before Justice Martin Gayle on Friday, the prosecution announced that investigations into the matter, which took place between last April and May, were not yet completed.
As a result, a February 2, 2007 mention date was set.
Jones, 42, a former deacon of the Dayton Diamond Ridge Church in Kingston; James Rogers and Shamar Morgan, both 18; and another teen are charged with five counts of trafficking in persons.
The deacon and his co-accused were earlier slapped with indecent assault and other sexually-related charges, stemming from allegations that a 13-year-old girl was assaulted in Jones’ van by the boys on several occasions. Those charges were, however, replaced with five counts of trafficking in persons.
When the three appeared in court earlier, a trial date could not be set due to incomplete investigations.
