Gourmet Passport
CONSTANT Spring Road was teeming with traffic last Monday. Shoppers were everywhere, cars were barely able to move and at the Passport Office everybody it seemed needed a travel document. For 25 (plus quite a few supporters) lunchtime became a celebratory affair.
Maureen Allen, the person who afforded members of the Reception, Data Entry and Mailing departments the opportunity to enjoy a DeliWorks Jamaican Christmas Feast, was busy organising staff members. DeliWorks staff members were all in place putting the final touches to the menu offerings of:
. Dressed ham with citrus glaze.
. Chicken wrapped in flaky pastry crust with sweet potato stuffing and onion gravy.
. Sweet potato purée topped with toasted pecans and brown sugar, gungo peas and rice, brown sugar rum-glazed plantains, pickled cucumber, and cho cho gratin.
There was sorrel aplenty too, as well as delicious Christmas pudding with brandy butter.
At Thursday Food we pride ourselves on going the extra mile and so thanks to Wray & Nephew’s Marilyn Bennett, we were able to offer two excellent choices of wine – Delicato (blush) White Zinfandel and Delicato Merlot.
Staff members like Raquel Thomas shared with Thursday Food how “elated, excited, ecstatic. we all are. It’s a great lunch and we’re thankful to both The Jamaica Observer and naturally DeliWorks.”
Mavis Brown, who has been on staff at the Passport Office for 28 years, was equally impressed. “The layout is very classy and the DeliWorks food excellent,” she remarks.
Lunchtime under the tent became a relaxed affair for us all. It was great to be able to watch the traffic congestion from a respectable distant and enjoy mouthfuls of delicious fruity Christmas cake.
Congratulations once again to our friends at the Passport Office and a Merry Christmas to you all. – Novia McDonald-Whyte
