Kingston man shot dead
Franklyn Uffar, 31, was shot dead by gunmen at Waltham Park Road in Kingston on New Year’s day.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said that at about 12:30 pm, Uffar was inside his Waltham Park Road home when two gunmen entered the premises. He was shot dead by the intruders, who escaped on foot in the area.
The police were summoned and the crime scene processed. The body was subsequently removed to the morgue for post-mortem.
Fire destroys house in Greenvale
FIRE on Monday destroyed sections of a three-bedroom house at Confidence Avenue in Greenvale, Mandeville.
Up to press time, the cause of the fire was still undetermined.
Reports from the CCN are that at about 12:45 am, smoke was seen coming from a section of the house. The fire brigade was alerted, and a unit from the Manchester Fire Department extinguished the blaze, which was confined to the kitchen and a bedroom.
Loss is estimated at $200,000. The house was not insured.
The Mandeville police are said to be investigating.
Cane vendor’s decomposing body found in St Thomas
THE decomposing body of a cane vendor was found in a shack near the Phillips Field community centre in Yallahs, St Thomas on Monday.
The dead man has been identified as James “Caney” Martin, 56, of Phillips Field at Yallahs in the parish.
The CCN reports that at about 5:00 pm, residents smelled a foul odour coming from the shack that was occupied by Martin, and alerted the police.
On arrival, the lawmen discovered the elderly man’s body with a number of chop wounds. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Martin was last seen alive last Saturday, according to the Morant Bay CIB, which is investigating.
