Changing of the Guard
This boy, one of a group of children from Stewart Street in Allman Town, Kingston, mimics the actions of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldiers during the Change of Guard Ceremony at National Heroes Park yesterday.
At 11:00 am, amidst a colourful show of military garb and music, the First Battalion of the Jamaica Regiment handed over duties for the protection of the National Heroes Park to the Second Battalion, Jamaica Regiment along the park’s main entrance. The JDF has, for the past six years, provided a ceremonial guard at the park where Jamaica’s national heroes are interred.
Brightly clad in their Regimental Colours – blue for the first battalion and red for the second battalion – the soldiers marched to music from the Jamaica Regiment Band and Corps of Drums.
Each battalion is comprised of 21 soldiers.
